Legrand’s commitment to local manufacturing enables us to deliver on our promise of Improving Lives for all Australians.

While in recent years - and particularly post COVID - Australia has seen a significant rebound in local manufacturing, the sector still only contributed $30.8 billion to the Australian economy in 2023, with the manufacturing share of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) declining from 6.8% to 5.0% over the last decade1.

Today, more than ever, there is an increased focus on bolstering our country’s manufacturing and industrial sector, driven by innovation, sustainability and a renewed focus on our domestic production capabilities.

While Legrand Australia is part of a global group specialising in electrical and digital infrastructure, we proudly operate local facilities in the Sydney suburbs of Prestons and Ingleburn. Our Prestons facility designs, manufactures and distributes over 15,000 items for the local market under several market-leading brands including Legrand, HPM, BTicino, and Netatmo. Our premium range of exit and emergency light fittings are 100% certified Australian Made, offering peace of mind to customers wanting to know they are purchasing products that are both designed and manufactured locally.

“There has never been a better time to reflect on the achievements of Australia and celebrate all things that are locally made. Having a domestic footprint allows us to offer tailored solutions specifically for this market, as well as investing back into the community within which we operate,” said Palash Nandy, CEO of Legrand ANZ.

Local manufacturing offers numerous advantages for Legrand Australia, as well as our people, customers and partners, economy and the environment:

Job Creation & Community Support: Local manufacturing stimulates employment opportunities, supporting economic growth and social stability. Legrand Australia provides jobs for over 300 Australians and has several employee initiatives in place to demonstrate the company’s focus on diversity and inclusion, and to help fast track the professional and personal development of our people.

Innovation and Talent Development: Proximity to production encourages innovation and facilitates knowledge transfer, driving skills development and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. At Legrand, our New South Wales based research and development team design solutions that are uniquely tailored to the ANZ market, offering a vast array of products such as wiring devices, emergency lighting, smart home systems and more.

Environmental Sustainability: Legrand has been supporting the fight against climate change for the past 20 years, investing in reducing our carbon footprint and developing circular economy principles as part of that responsibility. By producing products and solutions locally, we are mimimising transport or shipping-related carbon emissions. Our team is also constantly looking at where we can innovate across our factory floor and manufacturing operations, from modifying machine usage or finding efficiencies in our processes and using more recycled plastics in our devices.

Supply Chain Security: Local manufacturing enables Legrand Australia to remain agile and responsive to the domestic market. Our local footprint enhances our supply chain resilience and helps us mitigate risks associated with global disruptions. We recognise the unique standards, habits and needs of the ANZ market, and by manufacturing locally, we can quickly respond to customer demands and customisation requests.
